Hack the Heritage - First Culture Data Hackathon in Thuringia
from February 20-21, 2026
Save East Thuringia’s cultural treasures – The first cultural data hackathon in Thuringia, organized by the Nucleus Jena – Transfer.Regional.Nachhaltig project, will take place from February 20 to 21.
It aims to strengthen the exchange between Jena’s universities (EAH and FSU Jena) and regional memory institutions by addressing real digitization issues faced by the institutions with innovative measures. These issues will be presented as challenges to be tackled during the hackathon, with each team focusing on one challenge.
In order to encourage as many students as possible from Jena’s universities to participate in HACK THE HERITAGE, the hackathon is being offered as a seminar at FSU Jena.
Another incentive for students (as well as employees of Jena’s universities and external interested parties) to participate is the gamified basic concept of the hackathon, which presents the necessary work steps in a playful way. The registration process for the hackathon already collects relevant information about the participants in the form of a “character sheet.” Among other things, participants are asked to enter their relevant skills to facilitate team building.
The two-day event is divided into a kick-off event on Friday and the hacking sessions with a final presentation to the jury on Saturday.
Registration is requested.
Location: Lichtwerkstatt, Albert-Einstein-Straße 6, 07745 Jena
