WiNoDa: Who’s hiding behind museum collections?

A Wikidata Edit-a-thon

The Wikidata Edit-a-thon organized by WiNoDa on collectors of the arachnid and millipede sub-collection will take place online on February 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Compiled by a large number of people from all over the world, the collections of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin comprise materials from over three centuries. These individuals were part of complex networks that shaped collecting practices, expedition routes, and the later whereabouts of the objects. Wikidata makes it possible to discover these connections and reveal the often hidden human stories behind scientific collections.

The edit-a-thon is aimed at those interested in science and provides an opportunity to gain practical experience with Wikidata in a collaborative atmosphere and to help shape an open knowledge infrastructure. Participation is free of charge, but the number of participants is limited to 30.
