BARTOC
The Basic Register of Thesauri, Ontologies & Classifications (BARTOC) is a central database for listing knowledge organization systems (KOS).
Since 2013, BARTOC has been documenting all types of KOS – including classifications, standard data, thesauri, and ontologies – from all subject areas, in all languages, publication formats, and access forms. BARTOC contains more than 4,000 KOS with information on subject areas, publishers, interfaces (APIs), and other metadata, and enables targeted searching and browsing in selected vocabularies.
The list of terminologies particularly relevant to NFDI4Objects is maintained as a subset of BARTOC and can be accessed here.
The aim of BARTOC is to make knowledge organization systems more visible, easier to find, and more comparable, to expand and optimize search functions, and to promote their reuse.
From mid-2025 to 2028, BARTOC will be further expanded and developed as part of a DFG-funded project outside the NFDI.
