Compiled by a large number of people from all over the world, the collections of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin comprise materials from over three centuries. These individuals were part of complex networks that shaped collecting practices, expedition routes, and the later whereabouts of the objects. Wikidata makes it possible to discover these connections and reveal the often hidden human stories behind scientific collections.
The edit-a-thon is aimed at those interested in science and provides an opportunity to gain practical experience with Wikidata in a collaborative atmosphere and to help shape an open knowledge infrastructure. Participation is free of charge, but the number of participants is limited to 30.

Von einer Vielzahl von Personen aus aller Welt zusammengetragen, umfassen die Sammlungen des Museums für Naturkunde Berlin Materialien aus über drei Jahrhunderten. Diese Personen waren Teil komplexer Netzwerke, die Sammelpraktiken, Expeditionsrouten und die späteren Aufenthaltsorte der Objekte prägten. Wikidata ermöglicht es, diese Verbindungen zu entdecken und die oft verborgenen menschlichen Geschichten hinter wissenschaftlichen Sammlungen sichtbar zu machen.
Der Edit-a-thon richtet sich an wissenschaftlich Interessierte und ermöglicht es, in kollaborativer Atmosphäre praktische Erfahrungen mit Wikidata zu sammeln und eine offene Wissensinfrastruktur mitzugestalten.
