# Goals and Intended Work Results

In NFDI4Objects, research data is generated and annotated with information in the four content-related Task Areas 1-4. Authority files and terminologies are a focal point in order to be able to describe the content of the data. The CC therefore focuses on the (further) development of various standardised data and terminologies (in this context, this includes term lists, glossaries, thesauri and vocabularies).

The CC will serve as a central point of contact for the discussion of this content.

The aim is to facilitate a continuous exchange on N4O topics in suitable discussion formats and to discuss common challenges and perspectives.

A central topic is the handling of small archaeological finds, especially those discovered by metal detectorists, volunteers and chance finders. Questions of documentation, reporting, scientific evaluation and long-term management of these finds pose considerable organisational, legal and communicative challenges for both monument authorities and citizen scientists. Existing practices vary from region to region and are often insufficiently coordinated.

In addition, the CC addresses other topics such as quality assurance, knowledge transfer, the motivation and qualification of citizen scientists, and the interfaces between research, monument preservation, restoration and the public. Related disciplines and new forms of citizen scientist participation (e.g. supportive data collection via apps) are also to be explicitly included.

In order to agree on long-term, sustainable, standards-based solutions and collaborations, close cooperation with the N4O Community Cluster Protected Heritage Sites is planned.

The field of historical building research has established suitable formats and quality standards for the documentation of historical buildings, especially for the analog work over decades. The effective transfer of these standards into efficient digital workflows that take into account the diverse informative value of the source genre, the ongoing and at the same time considered integration of rapidly developing technical documentation and analysis methods as well as the full utilization of the potential of data processing technologies represent immense tasks for the discipline. Yet it ensures its future viability and opens up new fields of research. Other than in the case of artefacts that can be deposited or museumized, historical buildings are generally in continuous use. Documentation and analysis results from historical building research therefore not only provide primary data for cultural-historical classification, but also form an essential basis for building conservation. Therefore, historical building research is not only involved in purely academic research, but also plays a significant role in active planning processes. With regards to the object biography and corresponding research data cycles, the Community Cluster Building Research will incorporate the special features of historical architecture as an object category described above at relevant positions in the entire NFDI4Objects work program. platform for exchange between the consortium and experts in research
data management (RDM) consulting at universities, research institutions,
public authorities, companies, and NFDI consortia. It enables
consultants to receive up-to-date information and results from
NFDI4Objects while at the same time feeding practical needs and
challenges back into the consortium. The focus lies on mutual knowledge
transfer and the practice-oriented further development of consulting
services for the NFDI4Objects community. Meetings take place virtually
two to four times per year and are organized and documented by Task Area
 6. The cluster does not see itself as an RDM helpdesk, but rather as a
network for RDM consultants within the community. Overarching RDM topics
are addressed only if they have direct relevance for NFDI4Objects.
External connections include, among others, DALIA, the NFDI section
Education and Training, and various state-level RDM initiatives.

The aim is to jointly develop strategies for the development of open educational resources (OER) in the field of RDM or to adapt existing content accordingly. We also want to identify key areas of expertise in the field of RDM and use these to derive practical qualification profiles.

The planned cluster is aimed at anyone who is involved in teaching FDM skills in the field of the material legacy of human history in their everyday professional life, or who plans to do so – whether in teaching, further education, or practice.

Are you interested in participating in the exchange? Then we would be delighted if you would join our [mailing list ](https://www.listserv.dfn.de/sympa/info/n4o_cc_oer)and become part of the network.","de":"Qualifikation and Open Educational Ressources"}]

"skos:definition":[{"en":"The CC "On-Site Documentation" covers the broad range of data generation and data management activities associated with archaeological and heritage conservation primary documentation within the research community. The archaeological and heritage management data collected in this process is fundamentally dependent on the type of exploration methods used, the associated research questions and other factors. The heterogeneous data generated in this way is a characteristic feature of the scientific research landscape.

The cluster is focused at the needs of those working in the field research sector regardless of their academic education and research focus. This includes both the documentation of finds and findings in situ as well as activities that are directly connected to excavations, such as primary find processing. The cluster therefore primarily supports discussions, e.g. on data structures and raw data processing within primary documentation, both method and platform- independent and specific, and contributes these to the other bodies of NFDI4Objects. With regard to the data processes in 3D documentation (e.g. SfM-Technique) in field research activities, this also includes the 3D documentation of stratigraphic units (e.g. features, profiles, plana), individual objects and large-scale natural structures (terrain models, etc.).","de":"Grabungsdokumentation"}]

The main focus will be on spatial data, the associated metadata, and the legal status of the objects, as well as the legal consequences arising from the data. The protection of cultural heritage primarily falls under the cultural sovereignty of the federal states. The relevant datasets are very diverse across the various executing authorities and are primarily organized according to their own needs, organizational processes, and target systems. There is a significant lack of interfaces and standards, as well as comparability of specialized vocabularies and technical mappings between data fields in different information systems. In the future, regional comparability would be desirable, for example, to simplify overarching research, inquiry, and administrative tasks. This community cluster is intended to serve as a discussion platform for questions of data exchange as described above for monument authorities, research, industry, and society. In this way, stakeholders will be involved in the development work of NFDI4Objects. This will enable the participating actors to design and formulate interfaces and networks, while also creating concrete tools, such as a standardized geodata services, that meet practical needs.
