Report on Research Data Management in Museums and Collections (2024)

Report draft on research data management in museums and collections by the Temporary Working Group (TWG) ‘Environmental Analysis of the RDM Landscape in Museums and Collections’ of NFDI4Objects.

This is based on a survey conducted in 2024 by the Institute for Museum Research (IfM) and the Co-ordination Office for Academic University Collections (KUS). Topics covered in the study include, amongst others, the use of controlled vocabularies, thesauri, authority data, ontologies, data models, database applications and collection management systems; the implementation of the FAIR principles; data exchange formats; PIDs; metadata standards; metadata schemas; and measures for long-term preservation.

The report builds on the white paper https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.13362432. The recommendations on FDM in museums and collections were developed on the basis of the findings of this work.
