Forum: GND-Forum Humanities@NFDI

The GND as a shared infrastructure for cooperation and synergies within the NFDI

Contributors of the four humanities consortia of the National Research Data Infrastructure—NFDI4Culture, NFDI4Memory, NFDI4Objects, and Text+—will meet on June 23 and 24 for the GND Forum Humanities@NFDI in Göttingen.

The working meeting will focus on the Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND) as a unifying infrastructure for research data. Discussions will center on how the GND can further develop its role as a data resource and a cooperative organizational structure to strengthen collaboration among the consortia. Against the backdrop of the planned further development of the NFDI starting in 2028, the focus will be particularly on sustainable cooperation and development prospects.

Another focus will be on the question of how synergies that have already emerged regarding the use and further development of the GND can be better leveraged across consortia.

The discussions are organized into three thematic areas:

  • the role of the GND in the consortia’s tools and services,
  • different perspectives on key entity types in the GND,
  • and the potential for deeper collaboration based on the GND.

The forum thus offers an important platform for developing joint strategies and further expanding the GND as a central reference for the humanities research data landscape.

We would particularly like to draw your attention to the program item “The Future Potential of GND as a Lingua Franca in the Collaboration Among the Four Humanities Consortia (Open Strategy Debate)” on June 24, 2026. Dirk Wintergrün (Klassik Stiftung Weimar | NFDI4Objects) will represent our consortium in the discussion.
