CC-TWG-Treffen: Cluster meeting of the CC “Data Capture and Creation”

on the subject of the GND Agency for Buildings

How can building data be made easier to find and link within the fields of heritage conservation, art history and architectural history? The GND Buildings Agency relies on the Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND) for this purpose and assigns a unique identifier to each building.

At the next meeting of the ‘Data Capture and Creation’ community cluster on 10 November 2026, 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm, Christian Bracht, Hanna-Lena Meiners and Julia Rössel will provide an insight into the work of the GND Agency and the application profile ‘LIDO for Architecture and Other Fixed Works’.

The GND Agency acts as a point of contact for heritage conservation and research institutions in German-speaking countries; it advises on the use of the GND for cataloguing buildings and fixed fixtures, creates new GND records for relevant buildings and processes requests for corrections. The Heritage Conservation Unit advises and supports heritage conservation authorities on the registration and submission of their specialist data to the DDB portal, so that listed buildings and other heritage conservation objects can be made visible across regions and linked with objects from other sectors. It brings the perspective of heritage conservation to standardisation in the cultural heritage sector, provides advice and contributes to the further development of the LIDO data format.
