NFDI4Objects meets SODa - the joint project to establish a data competence centre for scientific university collections.
Our colleagues from NFDI4Objects were invited to the SODa Barcamp in Berlin from 14 to 16 October 2024. There, academics and IT experts exchanged views on research data management, data modelling and the necessary resources, among other things.
One highlight was the exchange between members of our consortium and employees at SODa. Particularly in the area of conservation and restoration, where there are valuable overlaps between the work programmes, the Barcamp was a first successful start to a collaboration. Topics such as terminologies, ontology development and minimal metadata definitions took centre stage in order to sustainably improve the collection and provision of data from conservation and restoration measures in the long term. Together, synergies were discovered and plans for the future were forged.
Together with Martin Stricker (HU Berlin/SODa), Anja Gerber (NFDI4Objects) presented the minimum dataset recommendation for museums and collections for the Minimal Dataset Working Group. She also gave an outlook on the corresponding plans and developments in NFDI4Objects. The minimum data set implemented in WissKI on the basis of CIDOC CRM was tested using an example from restoration (TA 4).
We are particularly pleased that we were able to gain new impetus for our work programme and new members for the Conservation & Restoration Community Cluster. We also jointly planned concrete next steps to pave the way for the digital cataloguing of conservation data. A great success that shows how data modelling promotes not only scientific but also human exchange.
We would like to thank SODa for the invitation and the exciting Barcamp!
