Cluster meeting of the CC Authority Files and Community-driven Vocabularies

Invitation to the meeting on 21 October 2025

The next cluster meeting of the CC Authority Files and Community-driven Vocabularies will take place on 21 October 2025, 13:00. This time we welcome the colleagues of the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities at the Austrian Academy of Sciences with a presentation of the Vocabs service.

Vocabs was developed in collaboration with the research infrastructure DARIAH-EU and is available to the wider community of European digital humanities and cultural heritage research. Vocabs offers an easy way to make your own controlled vocabularies publicly accessible via an easily searchable interface. It is possible to reference each individual vocabulary or concept through URIs and use various modelling options within the SKOS data model, including hierarchical relationships, alternative labels, mapping relations and groups.

However, Vocabs is much more than just a browser. The Vocabs team can support vocabulary creators from the initial planning and discussion phase, through to converting the draft into SKOS and creating semantic links to other resources. Vocabs also includes tools such as the Vocabs Editor, which provides a user-friendly GUI for creating vocabularies, and extensive public documentation (with checklists), which is currently being prepared.

The speakers are Massimiliano Carloni and Martina Trognitz, who both work at the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. They deal with the long-term archiving of research data and the use of semantic technologies in the humanities.
