Goethezeit digital: Linked and FAIR data

The new knowledge portal on Goethe and his era provides a central digital gateway to the diverse sources and collections relating to Goethe’s time. In addition to the existing content, digitised material, editions, and collection and bibliographic data from the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, our co-applicant, will also be integrated in the future. The museums and poets’ houses, the Duchess Anna Amalia Library and the Goethe and Schiller Archive preserve a unique treasure trove of knowledge, which can now also be digitally interconnected and explored within its historical context.

This involves more than just the digital presentation of content: data should be sustainably discoverable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. The link to central databases and authority data, as well as standardised interfaces in the future, creates important foundations for this. The further development of the portal is thus guided by the principles of FAIR Data and, at the same time, ties in with the objectives of the National Research Data Infrastructure.

Step by step, this is creating an interconnected database that enables cross-institutional research and supports new forms of re-use – from scientific analysis to applications in the field of artificial intelligence.

TAn initial version of the portal was launched to mark Goethe’s birthday on 28 August. The range of content will continue to grow in collaboration with other partners. In doing so, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar is also laying the foundations for greater openness and the interlinking of its data.
