NFDI4Objects at the CAA International 2025
Annual conference of CAA International from 5 to 9 May 2025 in Athens
Under the motto “Digital Horizons: Embracing heritage in an evolving world”, the Athena Research Center, the Hellenic Open University, the Ephorate of Antiquities of East Attica and the University of West Attica invite you to the 52nd Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology (CAA) International Conference in Athens from 5 to 9 May 2025. The multi-day conference will take place at the University of West Attica.
NFDI4Objects is represented by Session 17 “Comparing the Incomparable: Managing and Analysing Data from Heterogeneous Sources in Archaeological Research”. The session will be chaired by Fabian Riebschläger (German Archaeological Institute), Lisa Steinmann (German Archaeological Institute) and Julian Hollaender (State Office for Monument Preservation Baden-Württemberg).
The session is related to the Temporary Working Group “Object- and geodata in the primary documentation” and the Community Cluster “On-site Documentation”.

Looking back
N4O was present with numerous and diverse contributions at the CAA International 2025 from 5 to 9 May in Athens.
Steffen Berger and Jonas Abele presented in Session 24: Digital Fieldwork Documentation in Archaeology: Innovations, Challenges and Standards in their contribution “No Gaps, No Glitches! Measurement data processing with Survey2GIS” the further development of the Survey2GIS service as a QGIS plugin and the parser generator.
In Session 17: Comparing the Incomparable: Managing and Analysing Data from Heterogeneous Sources in Archaeological Research, Julian Hollaender et al. presented the state of development of the metadata set for archaeological activities in primary documentation in their paper “The Minimal Meta Data Set for Archaeological Fieldwork within the N40 Objects Ontology”.
Fabian Riebschläger, Lisa Steinmann and Julian Hollaender organised Session 17: Comparing the Incomparable: Managing and Analyzing Data from Heterogeneous Sources in Archaeological Research. During the presentations and discussions, important experiences were exchanged with international colleagues and contacts were made.
Call for Papers
Papers and posters for one of the sessions can still be submitted until 29 October 2024. Authors will be informed by mid-December whether their submission was successful.
