Workshop: Modelling Fuzziness and Wobbliness at the NFDI Lokalforum of Cologne University

Representing vagueness and uncertainty in digital data can be very challenging. Yet ambiguous information is commonplace in archaeology and related disciplines. Whilst vague data often implies a degree of precision, ambiguous information frequently prevents effective analysis. Can ambiguity be modelled in such a way that such data is nevertheless suitable for re-use? How can data that is both vague and imprecise be handled?
These questions are being explored, among other things, by TRAIL 2.8 in NFDI4Objects Task Area 2 “Collecting”, which is developing initial proposals for dealing with imprecise data. The workshop builds on this and clearly conveys the recommendations through a practical exercise. It also aims to create a space for commenting on and discussing the content. Targeted specifically via the NFDI Local Forum of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Cologne, all researchers in the humanities are warmly invited to attend.
The workshop will take place in the PC room of the Institute of Archaeology (Room 210), on the 2nd floor at the end of the corridor. Participants will need a way to take notes and a personal device with internet access. The number of participants is limited to 20.

Travel Expense Reimbursement

Are you a student, PhD candidate or early-career researcher with limited financial resources, but would still like to take part in one of our face-to-face workshops?

We can help: under certain conditions, you can apply to us for reimbursement of your travel expenses. To be eligible for travel expense reimbursement, the following conditions must be met:

• You are enrolled at a German university or higher education institution on a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme (undergraduate students, PhD candidates).
• or: You completed your PhD less than three years ago and are working in a fixed-term post-doctoral position (early-career researcher).
• You must complete the application form for travel expenses in full and submit it to us, together with the original supporting documents, by the deadline. (Link: Claim for reimbursement of travel expensesn)
