New contribution to the NFDI4Objects Commons: Metadata framework for documenting conservation and restoration practices

A new article is now available on our Community Hub for comment by all interested parties from the relevant fields of work and the research data management sector as a whole. The feedback gathered in this way will serve as a basis for the authors to produce a consolidated version of their article, thereby actively supporting the participation-based quality assurance of the recommendations from NFDI4Objects. We therefore hope for lively participation and warmly invite all interested parties to engage in an in-depth exchange of views.

The white paper itself presents, for the first time, a practically applicable framework for the standardised recording of conservation and restoration interventions on art and cultural heritage. It builds on existing documentation standards from object-oriented disciplines and supplements these for the systematic recording of conservation and restoration measures. The information that can be documented in this way is also of great interest to related object-based disciplines such as archaeology, art history and provenance research, as well as for collection management and the planning and execution of scientific analyses. The proposed recommendation for standardisation thus directly addresses the practical needs identified by our consortium and is, at the same time, a successful outcome of the work carried out in our community clusters and temporary working groups.
