Multispectral analysis tool for archaeological prospecting
Description
The ArcSpectra multispectral analysis tool for archaeological prospecting aims to develop a flexible, user-friendly tool for the processing and interpretation of multispectral sensor and satellite data. This includes the automated assignment of camera bands (presets) and the flexible definition and calculation of vegetation indices for the detection of archaeological features beneath the earth’s surface (such as ditches, walls and pits). By providing open standards for index definition and transparent documentation of the mathematical formulas, ArcSpectra makes an important contribution to the reproducibility of archaeological remote sensing data.
Once the researcher has uploaded their multispectral image data (e.g. from DJI or MicaSense drones, as well as Sentinel or Landsat satellites), they can select predefined indices via a graphical user interface or create their own mathematical formulas for analysis in the integrated index editor. The calculated results and false-colour composites are visualised and exported together with the metadata in such a way that they can be seamlessly integrated into GIS systems or transferred to the NFDI4Objects services for long-term archiving. This enables a well-founded, quality-assured evaluation of their terrain data and promotes an understanding of cultural landscapes.
