HECTOR-Editor
HECTOR-Editor is a desktop application developed using Python and CustomTkinter for managing semantic SKOS vocabularies.
Description
The HECTOR editor for vocabulary management and semantic modelling aims to develop a flexible, user-friendly tool for the creation, editing and maintenance of structured, hierarchical thesauri based on the SKOS standard (Simple Knowledge Organisation System). This includes the automated management and synchronisation of hierarchical relationships (such as skos:broader and skos:narrower), support for polyhierarchies, and the management of multilingual labels (skos:prefLabel and skos:altLabel). By providing open standards for vocabulary representation (RDF-Turtle) and ensuring semantic consistency, HECTOR-Editor makes an important contribution to the standardisation and interoperability of archaeological research data.
Once the researcher has uploaded their vocabulary data in .ttl format, they can use a graphical interface to create new concepts, organise them hierarchically, or edit them in the integrated metadata form. Through connections to external interfaces, Wikidata, the Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT) and the Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND) can be queried directly and integrated as standardised mappings (skos:exactMatch). The processed vocabularies and exported sub-hierarchies (facets) are visualised and exported together with the metadata in such a way that they can be seamlessly integrated into Linked Open Data infrastructures or transferred to the NFDI4Objects services for long-term archiving.
