Expansion and generalization of ArboDat+, as well as integration and connection of the bioarchaeological TA3 repositories to the NFDI4Objects knowledge graph ArboDat-Service'
Description
The archaeobotanical database program ArboDat has a large user community (>250 users in >20 countries), but it is based on outdated software and does not fully address the community’s current needs. (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10829738). A newly revised, platform-independent, open-source version, “ArboDat+,” was implemented as part of the first TRAIL round. The proposed TRAIL is now intended to support the further development of the centralized database program as well as the integration of publicly available data with other bioarchaeological data from Task Area 3 into Linked Open Data. Plans include a multilingual front end, the integration of interdisciplinary and standardized vocabularies (e.g., insects, pollen), and a connection to PANGAEA. Furthermore, data publicly available on PANGAEA will be transformed into RDF based on the Archaeonatural Ontology (ArNO) and integrated into the NFDI4Objects knowledge graph. The resulting workflows are to be applied within the TRAIL framework to other bioarchaeological data in Task Area 3 (Poseidon, Ossobook). The goal is to lay the groundwork for enabling queries across different repositories and demonstrating their added value to the bioarchaeological community. This TRAIL is thus intended to implement content that could not be addressed in TRAIL Round 1 and, building on this, prepare the data for further use.
