Development of Cross-Platform Online Geodata Services for Archaelogical Sites and Heritage Data

1/1/2026 -

Description

To improve the discoverability and usability of cultural heritage data generated by state heritage agencies, universities, and citizen scientists, among others, several INSPIRE- and OGC-compliant online geodata services are being developed as part of this TRAIL. Based on the exchange interfaces developed in the TRAIL “Development of Interfaces for Cultural Heritage Objects, Measures, Protected Sites, and Citizen Science Data” these services will provide data on cultural heritage objects, measure objects, and protected sites, and will also depict legal implications, such as those arising from the various state monument protection laws. This will enable a daily updated view of the data in the archives and systems of the data holders. To safeguard the protection interests of the data-holding parties, data access is regulated via a tiered access rights system. The geodata services can be integrated into users’ own information systems via interfaces. This enables cross-system data exchange.
Furthermore, as part of the TRAIL, guidelines are being developed for the independent creation of standardized geodata services, which will enable the professional community to publish their own data in accordance with the standardized data models.
