Metadata Standards in Mining Archaeology & Archaeometry (MOAR Meta)
Description
As part of the TRAIL, the integration and publication of research data in the fields of mining archaeology and archaeometallurgy/archaeometrics will be supported in accordance with the FAIR principles. The focus is particularly on data related to the historical use of raw materials. A key challenge lies in the heterogeneity and lack of standardization of data formats and metadata.
The goal is to develop subject-specific metadata standards and data interfaces, as well as a “template” designed to enable the straightforward and user-friendly provision of datasets via the GeoHist-Sites and TerraLID services, which are currently being developed at the German Mining Museum in Bochum.
To this end, suitable metadata structures will first be modeled and then coordinated and further developed within a Temporary Working Group to meet the specific requirements of the academic community. Based on these requirements, the input and publication of sample datasets in GeoHist will be tested in a subsequent trial phase to evaluate the practical suitability of the developed models.
In the long term, the TRAIL aims to contribute to the sustainable use and visibility of mining archaeology research data within the NFDI. The results will be integrated into N4O Commons.
